Each year on August 21st, we observe National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day to honor the lives lost to illicit fentanyl, support the families and communities forever impacted by this crisis, and renew our commitment to prevention. The day serves as a powerful reminder that awareness and community action are essential to saving lives and preventing future loss.
At MAPDA, this observance reflects the heart of our mission. We are committed to empowering families and advancing prevention efforts that protect future generations from drug abuse and fentanyl poisoning. Together, we can create lasting impact because drug abuse and fentanyl prevention begin with all of us.
We also recognize and thank the first responders, healthcare professionals, and law enforcement officers who work tirelessly every day to save lives and respond to this crisis. Their dedication, courage, and commitment make a difference in our communities every day.
Preventing future loss requires both compassion and accountability. We must ensure that individuals struggling with substance use disorder have access to treatment, recovery, and hope, while continuing to hold accountable those who profit from addiction by trafficking illicit fentanyl and other dangerous drugs. We are also grateful for the courts that are imposing meaningful penalties on fentanyl traffickers, helping protect our communities and hold accountable those who prey on vulnerable individuals.
