Across the country, mothers, families, and communities are demanding stronger action to address the devastating impact of fentanyl and substance abuse. States are advancing legislation designed to increase accountability for those who traffic deadly drugs while strengthening efforts to protect families and save lives.

In Colorado, the proposed measure originally introduced as Initiative 85 has officially qualified for the ballot and is now Proposition 132, where voters will decide its future in November 2026. The measure seeks to strengthen penalties for fentanyl trafficking while expanding access to treatment for individuals struggling with addiction.

Colorado is not alone. States across the country continue to pursue legislation addressing fentanyl trafficking, overdose deaths, and accountability. Earlier this year, South Carolina enacted a Fentanyl-Induced Homicide Act, joining a growing number of states taking legislative action when fentanyl distribution results in a fatal overdose.

For MAPDA, these efforts represent more than legislation. They reflect a commitment to protecting families, strengthening communities, and confronting a crisis that continues to claim lives across our nation. Action requires prevention, accountability, and policies that put families first.

As this movement continues to grow, MAPDA will remain committed to take action against fentanyl and substance abuse.
