MAPDA is partnering with KESQ News Channel 3 on a campaign to expand substance abuse prevention and fentanyl awareness throughout the Coachella Valley.

The need for this work remains significant. In 2024, 48.4 million Americans ages 12 and older had a substance use disorder, representing 16.8% of the population in this age group (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA], 2025).

That same year,47,735 overdose deaths involved synthetic opioids other than methadone, a category that includes fentanyl and fentanyl analogs (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2026).

Behind these numbers are individuals, families, and communities. This campaign gives MAPDA the opportunity to bring prevention information directly into homes throughout the Coachella Valley and help people understand the risks associated with fentanyl and substance use.
